Douglas Hannant Bridal 2010

This marks the third outing for Mr. Hannant's bridal collection which as usual was only twelve pieces but shows us that he's a designer in full work mode as well producing spring, fall and resort lines. For bridal the looks are way more ornate and elaborate than his first two collection. The silhouette has shifted in construction as well with a more architectural theme and less fluid from previous seasons. From looking at this compact collection it seems Mr. Hannant is looking to to attract his older clientele who might be a second or third time bride. This might prove tough in regards to attracting the first time bride into a gown but the investment is well worth the money. By keeping his Bridal collections short and tight demonstrates that Douglas Hannant is following the market and knows where the money is. Bridal is but a small aspect to this great designers work which allows him to focus more on the other collections.

Douglas Hannant S/S 2010

For Spring 2010 Douglas Hannant opted to show his collection presentation style at the Plaza hotel in conjunction with his new shop which opens at the hotel as well. It was a lovely affair with all his girls out in full force and the champagne flowed like water into the evening. Feeling the true nature of spring the collection has no black and shows more softer colors. It seems the majority of the collection are dresses, gowns and a few Hannant staple items like his skinny pants. With so many dresses and gowns the feeling is the Mr.Hannant has a deep focus for evening but leaves his customer with little or no options for day wear. We are confident that there are more day pieces he just decided not to show them.

Douglas Hannant Bridal Spring 2010

We have to admit that were not big fans of the bridal season so when the dates showed up on the fashion calendar little interest was shown except for one show, Douglas Hannant. We had gone to the debut collection which consisted of fourteen looks. For Spring it's 12 looks and Mr. Hannant has covered all the bases for his clients. The first few looks where strapless and had a feel of second time bride in her late thirties, forties but still very elegant. The silhouette is slim and form fitting and could easily be dubbed a "destination" dress for a wedding in the Bahamas.

Further down the collection the looks became more poof in style and filled out for a first time bride. Some dressed were adorned with jewels around the next line, something we have been seeing in ready-to-wear for about two seasons now. Our favorite looks were the white tulle veiled sequin racerback gown this dress done in a different color could easily be worn on a red carpet for the Oscars! The other one we loved was the ivory satin faced organza spiral gown which has a "sex and the city" feel to it, yes think Carrie Bradshaw and Mr. Big.

Once again Mr. Hannant has proved that less is indeed more with only showing twelve looks at the Plaza. In our opinion seeing any bridal collection where the looks get into the thirties and forties is overkill and editors get lost and lose focus. As for Douglas he makes it short and sweet and to the point. If wedding bells are ringing ladies this is what you want to be wearing!

Post show we had the chance to interview Mr. Hannant's business partner Frederick Anderson the interview can be heard at www.thefashionmarketreport.com
