Yoko Devereaux Fall 2008

It’s a given that men need clothing but it’s not easy being a mens wear designer since most men in America are more concerned with football and other things. So grabbing the attention of the American male consumer might be a stretch.

Andy Salzer the creative director of Yoko Devereaux has been Doing mens wear for roughly eight years, we remember his debut show in Soho New York and were grabbed by his ability to create wearable mens fashion. He has been known to produce some provocative t-shirts with some interesting phrases and images, but man cannot live on t-shirts alone!

The fall 2008 collection demonstrates Salzer’s ability to produce a wearable collection which add to a man’s “staple” wardrobe. Some of the standout pieces where his Black Fleece double breasted jacket and deep v bomber jacket and olive cotton twill skinny pant.

Showing only 17 looks one thing is for certain, Mr Salzer knows the market by not over producing and seems to have his eye on the business market in light of the pending recession the United States is facing. Giving the consumer what they need, we like that!

Andrew Buckler Fall 2008

When going to a Andrew Buckler fashion show be prepared for a show, which is what this designer delivers. He’s very into the shock value and at times might leave some editors disturbed and turned off by the models on the runway. But models are one thing and clothes are quite another.

Getting up close and personal with what he showed, the line for fall 2008 has allot to offer consumers. Of note his sweaters have a beautiful twist on bias sewn cable knits, something we have never seen before and makes for standout pieces.

His slacks are cut smartly and tailored well and paired with his fitted shirts make for clean looks for men coming into the fall season for this year.

Another aspect to this designer is his price point which ranges between $300-500 depending on what pieces catch your eye. Further more it seems he’s holding strong in the men’s market by opening up his own store in Soho New York.

Kira Plastinina Russian Design Sensation

For a very long time Russia was not know for fashion or fashion designers but now there’s is a change is the wind with a fifteen year old design sensation named Kira Plastinina. Kira had gotten into design by seeing things that were missing is the marketplace for young girls and proceeded to make a change for the better.

This has translated into twenty stores all over Russia and plans are being made to launch six stores in New York City and California. Nine of the stores are in Moscow.

The clothing line is designed for young girls with great prints with loads of color. Also included are dresses, top, skirts and even shoes. projected price points for the line are reasonable. We have a feeling with the designer being so young along with attractive pricing the clothing will be seen on many TV shows in the coming months geared towards young girls. With this combination and potential US stores launching, this could give other retailers a run for their money.

Luigi Borrelli Spring 2008

The Spring 2008 line from Luigi Borrelli does not break any new fashion trends for the season nor for that matter any season since it’s not their position to do so. So if there’s no breaking fashion from this Italian luxury menswear house why would we devote a review? Quite simply Luigi Borrelli is a lesson in fine garments with price points to match.

Attention to detail is what grabs you into this company, which goes the extra mile in the respects of finishing details and stitching of their garments. If your looking for custom clothing Borrelli can accommodate most things they produce. If you happen to like a suit or a pair of slacks it can be done in a different fabric to your specific needs, granted they have it in stock, or have access to it.

Getting back to the finishing details they achieve in their clothing can be seen in their cotton/linen polo shirts, which start out at $250.00. The shirts are finished in a process dubbed “Tinto A Capo” where the shirts are pre-washed giving them a worn in feel thusly breaking in the fibers of the shirt.

Further more on the custom aspect of Borrelli is the line of golf shoes they produce, they can be made in a variety of color choices and are all done in leather. If your looking for a custom pair the price starts out at $2,400.00 and goes up from there. There’s no doubt that these shoes will make one the most stylish on the golf course and make others re-think their shoe choices.

Borrelli is all about details and high quality fabrics. For them it’s not about breaking new fashion ground but keeping with a tradition of making clothes which separates them from other houses.
