DONALD J. PLINER FALL 2008 PREVIEW

Donald J Pliner lives the life of a touring rock star who is on the road for roughly two hundred days out of the year doing public appearances to promote his long standing brand. It was our great fortune to meet one-on-one with Donald to preview his Fall 2008 collection.

We has seen the line seasons ago and it did not grab us due to the fact of it's over the top design element, but all of that has changed for 2008. The shoes he's producing are more toned down and have much more consumer interest. According to Donald it's all about comfort which is a key element with any buyer of shoes. He noted that his shoes "like to talk" and by this he grabbed a pair and bent forward the sole of the shoe making them like puppets. A cute trick but more so driving home the point that he has done extensive research in footwear and constructing shoes that could be dubbed "broken in". In other words the shoes are ready for use the first time you put them on, the breaking in process has been taken out. What is even more attractive is his price point for his goods which range well under $1,000.00.

Bringing his line full circle is his extensive collection of handbags done in all shapes and sizes. There is a wide variety of swatch patterns so one can ideally get what one wants. If your looking for a matching shoe and bag set it can be achieved. One bag we fell in love with was a candy apple red patent leather tote, which brought us back to the 1970's muscle cars and fender Stratocaster guitars done in this color years ago. Although red was not a significant color on the New York runways it offers a beautiful color punch for a woman who wants to break rules and make a fashion statement.
